The World Health Organisation has called for a pause on vaccine booster shots until 2022. The Health body wants wealthier countries to distribute doses to other countries with low vaccines supplies before injecting booster shots.
A ‘moratorium’ on third doses of the vaccine was initially proposed through the end of September. The Director-General says about 80 percent of the 5.5 billion vaccine doses that have been administered globally went to high-income countries.
France has already started administering booster shots to those with underlying health conditions. The UK is slated to begin its booster program for immunocompromised people later this month.
