Taliban takes control of final province

The Taliban has taken complete control of Afghanistan after four days of fighting against resistance forces, and the final province in Panjshir was taken over by insurgence.

Reports claim the Taliban teamed up with Al-Qaeda militants to invade the area. Officials say the opposition was defeated and fled the country, but several opposition leaders have denied the claims, insisting they are lies.

The militant group is yet to announce the formation of a new government. European Union and Britain have joined the United States in saying they won’t recognize them as Afghanistan’s government.

As intense fighting ravages the region, citizens are forced to flee, but with Kabul airport closed, they are attempting to cross land borders.

Eight agencies say the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan worsens each day and desperately needs international assistance but with the Taliban in control, getting aid into the region is extremely difficult.
