Road rage: Mother’s final moments with dying son

The mother of a six-year-old boy tragically killed in an apparent road rage shooting has spoken about the nightmare scene.

The mother of a six-year-old boy killed on a California highway in an apparent road-rage attack has pleaded for “justice to be served” as the shooter remains at large.

“They took my son’s life away,” Aiden Leos’ mother, Joanna Cloonan, said in an interview on Good Morning America.

“He was beautiful, and he was kind, and he was precious, and you killed him for no reason. And I want to find them, and I want there to be justice to be served for my son.”

Ms. Cloonan said she drove Aiden to school on Friday morning in Orange when a white sedan cut her off on the 55 Freeway.

“As I started to merge away from them, I heard a deafening noise,” Ms. Cloonan said. “And my son said, ‘Ow,’ and I had to pull over. And he got shot.”

“I pulled over, and I took him out of the car, and I tried to put my hand on his wounds while calling 911. Because he was losing a lot of blood,” she added.

The boy was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead; police said, “He meant the world to me, and it feels like my life is over,” Ms. Cloonan said. “That was my baby. I’ve never, never thought pain like this could exist.”

Police are searching for the suspect. “I hope that people see this (interview) and understand that this is not OK, whatever and whoever these people are and for whatever reason, this is not OK,” the mother said.

“It should never happen again. So whatever help this does, that’s my intention for my son.” This article originally appeared in the New York Post and was reproduced with permission
