British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is being accused of an unethical and possibly illegal plan to fund the refurbishment of his Downing Street flat. The criticism would be stinging from his political opponents, but it could be damaging from the man who helped him win the election.
Dominic Cummings has responded after he was accused of leaking Mr. Johnson’s text messages and suggested the prime minister had been exploring other ways of getting donors to secretly pay for the renovation.
The response came in the form of a 1,000-word blog post and also wrote he advised Mr. Johnson his actions were “unethical, foolish, possibly illegal, and almost certainly broke the rules” on political donations.
“It is sad to see the PM and his office fall so far below the standards of competence and integrity the country deserves.” The blog post has been called a “nuclear Dom,” and the man Mr. Johnson brought in to help him run government is now waging war against him.
