Israel needs to make sure ‘Hamas does not rebuild’ weapons capability

Interim Ambassador of the Embassy of Israel in Australia Jonathan Peled says the reason the conflict in Gaza Strip continued 11 days before a ceasefire was that Israel “needed to make sure” Hamas’ military capability was degraded.

“We didn’t start this, and we had to take all the necessary measures reluctantly to defend our population, more than 4,000 rockets were fired at us indiscriminately trying to hit as many civilians on our side as possible,” he told Sky News.

Mr. Peled said the ceasefire was a good thing and was hopeful it was a “long-standing, sustainable, and quiet” peace but said Israel must make sure Hamas does not rebuild quickly.

“What we need to ensure now is that Hamas does not rebuild and restart another wave of rockets against Israeli citizens.”
