America’s top infectious disease expert does not believe the United States will go back into lockdown again despite a surge in Delta variant infections.
Dr. Anthony Fauci says the highly infectious strain has been spreading primarily among the unvaccinated. This comes after 58 percent of Americans have received their first dose – with 100 million people eligible for the vaccine yet to get a jab.
He believes not enough people have been vaccinated to stop the outbreak but enough to prevent the mass infections and deaths recorded last winter. The average number of new cases across the US has almost doubled in the past 10 days.
