British Prime Minister Boris Johnson says the West needs to work together to prevent Afghanistan from “lapsing back into a breeding ground for terror”.
A Taliban official has said the militant group will soon declare the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan from the presidential palace in the capital.
Mr. Johnson said the United Kingdom will be working with the UN and NATO to ensure no one bilaterally recognizes the Taliban.
“We don’t want anybody bilaterally recognizing the Taliban,” he said. “We want a united position amongst all the like-minded as far as we can get one to prevent Afghanistan lapsing back into being a breeding ground for terror.”
