At least 44 people have been killed and dozens more injured after a stampede at a religious festival in Israel.
The chaotic scenes were captured on social media showing thousands of ultra-Orthodox Jews trying to escape the crush. Israel’s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, describes the incident at the Lag B’Omer as a “heavy disaster”.
Over 100 others were hurt during the Lag B’Omer event at Mount Meron in northern Israel, where annual commemorations included all-night prayers and dancing.
